Love: Infinite and Eternal
For a brief moment last month, the world seemed to stop and marvel at our very first images of Pluto. To everyone’s surprise and delight, Pluto gave us the most beautiful gift of all, his/her heart, the ultimate gift of love. NASA’s signals were like cupid’s arrow, igniting our imaginations and our own hearts with the sweet, delicious elixir of love. We all paused and pondered and wondered, most of us ever so briefly, but the message was unmistakable. Little, faraway Pluto sent us a great big reminder of what resides deep within us all - love, love, sweet love.
It is even more fascinating that the planet Pluto in astrological and mythological contexts is associated with the underworld, with darkness. Did Pluto's beautiful, bright heart remind us that beyond our own darkness, fears, illusions and insecurities resides the essence of love? Could it really be true? Can it truly be that beyond the known lies love? Behind the illusion lies love? That underlying the pain and hurt and loss is love? That in the deepest, darkest reaches of space and time we find love? That even though we sometimes cannot see or hear or feel or understand it, love is present - always.
It's fabulous that Pluto's pretty message of love was delivered not by poets, artists or spiritualists, but from scientists. Top, intelligent, highly-educated and accomplished scientists. It's almost as if the pure vibration of love was sent to every human on Earth from a highly reliable and objective source to eradicate any conceivable doubt that love is real. Love is valid. Love is here.
“Lovers don't finally meet somewhere. They're in each other all along.” - Rumi
Love is within us and it's epicenter is deep within our heart. The heart center is called anahata. It means unbeaten or unstruck. Anahata is a constant sound or vibration that is formed without striking objects together... an eternal, timeless, limitless frequency - of love. It just is. It has always been there, and will always be there. Sometimes, well most of the time, we drown out the lovely sound of our hearts. We become distracted by daily life, schedules, family, work, troubles, entertainment, and by simply trying to get along. But it's not difficult to tune in to the eternal feeling of love that is always vibrating deep inside. It just takes a bit of quiet time, stillness, and conscious breath.
Breathing into the Heart Center
Sit in a comfortable posture either cross legged, or with feet stable and grounded on the floor. Relax your shoulders, neck and face. Take a few deep breaths. Straighten your spine. Breathe slowly, deeply and evenly. Relax.
Rest your elbows along your side ribs and hold your hands in lotus mudra at the level of your heart. Close your eyes.
Become aware of breath entering your nostrils, slowly flowing down to your navel, and pause. Feel the breath flow up from your navel and out through your nostrils, and pause. Stay with this pattern a few moments.
As you continue to breathe slowly, pausing at the navel and out beyond your nostrils, begin to notice a warm sensation in your palms. You may feel the sensation of a warm, glowing orb of energy hovering in your palms.
As you continue the breathing pattern, notice a glowing, warm sensation expanding inside the area of your heart. As breath travels on its way from the nostrils down to the navel, feel this warm sensation expand as your breath passes through the heart center. As the breath travels from the navel up to the nostrils, feel loving warmth radiate from your heart out through your organs, your bones, your skin and beyond.
Continue for as long as you like, expanding the sensations of loving, glowing warmth. As you exhale, allow the rays of your heart to radiate far into the distance. There is no limit. Allow the warmth of your heart's love radiate out into infinity, riding on the currents of your breath.
Thanks for being here! I'm looking forward to helping you feel healthy, happy and eternally radiant!
